About mapa.gay
An LGBTQI+ travel guide. Legal data by country, gay-friendly city guides and Pride events, sources cited.
Why it exists
When you travel as an LGBTQI+ person the real questions are simple: is it safe?, where's the scene?, when is Pride?. Answers tend to be scattered: dense academic papers, gay blogs with tourist bias, SEO listicles without substance.
mapa.gay consolidates them in one place. It does not promote dangerous destinations, nor block imperfect ones out of fear. The idea is for you to make your own informed decision.
What you'll find
- Country pages — 5-tier legal traffic light, legal framework, what it's like to live it, recent news, cities covered.
- City pages — gay neighbourhoods, gay-friendly hotels, LGBTQI+ experiences, nightlife, practical tips.
- Pride pages — confirmed dates, programme, attendance history, hotels near the route.
- Guides and lists — themed comparisons (top LGBT destinations, best European Prides, etc.).
Who runs it
Independent editorial project. No big team, no investors.
Methodology
Each country gets a tier from 1 to 5 — Safe · Friendly · Neutral · Caution · Avoid — based on a travel-oriented assessment that combines legal framework, social context and documented anti-LGBT violence. The city ranking combines that tier with local LGBT vibrancy. Concrete formulas are not published.
Editorial selection is independent of affiliates and advertisers. Ratings are not published without verifiable data, and every datum cites its source. Source and licence details are in the legal notice.
