Legal information for the mapa.gay project.

Purpose of the site

mapa.gay is an independent editorial project publishing content about LGBTQI+ travel with a primary focus on safety: legal and social indicators by country, city guides, Pride events, themed lists and informational guides. Content is informational and orientational: it does not constitute legal, medical, tax or any other professional advice, nor does it replace consulting the official sources of the destination country.

Nature of content and limitation of liability

The legal and social situation for LGBTQI+ people varies by country and can change rapidly. Legal data, safety recommendations, tolerance levels, event attendance figures and any quantitative data are approximations from public sources (see Sources and licences). Always verify with official sources before travelling.

Use of mapa.gay information is at your own risk. The site owner disclaims any liability for damages or consequences arising from travel decisions based on the site's content, to the maximum extent permitted by law.

Mentions of establishments, events and companies. References to hotels, tours, venues, organisations or events are editorial opinions about their gay friendly character, based on public sources. They do not constitute an accusation of discrimination, a denunciation of conduct, nor a factual claim about individual practices. Any establishment, person or entity that considers a mention inappropriate or inaccurate may request correction, qualification or removal via the errata notice channel.

Links to third-party sites. mapa.gay links to external sites for reference or as a contracting channel. The owner does not control those sites and assumes no responsibility for their content, opinions, products, services, availability or privacy policies. Pursuant to Art. 17 LSSI-CE, this exemption only ceases when actual knowledge of unlawfulness is evidenced (see Errata notification).

Affiliate links and advertising

The site is funded primarily through affiliate links to travel booking platforms (accommodation, activities, transport or other services) and may in the future incorporate display advertising (e.g. Google AdSense, in contextual non-personalised mode). If you book through an affiliate link, the owner may earn a commission at no additional cost to you. Links that generate a commission are identified as such in the relevant section.

mapa.gay acts as an editorial recommender, not as a seller. The booking, payment and contract are entered into directly between the user and the platform or service provider, under their own terms. mapa.gay is not a party to that contractual relationship and is not responsible for the provision of the service —availability, changes, cancellations, quality or fulfilment—, which is the provider's responsibility.

The prices shown are indicative: they are set by the provider and may vary depending on dates, availability and currency. The final price and applicable terms —including the cancellation policy— are confirmed on the destination platform before completing the purchase.

This commercial relationship does not influence editorial selection or published ratings. Advertising spaces and sponsored content are clearly identified as such, pursuant to Art. 20 LSSI-CE. The data processing associated with advertising is detailed in the Privacy Policy.

Verifiable facts (law dates, figures, identities) are not protectable by copyright and are extracted with attribution to the source. Writings, translations and reformulations of those facts on mapa.gay are original editorial work.

With Wikipedia (Share-Alike clause) only discrete facts are taken for cross-check; literal paragraphs are not reproduced. Any occasional literal quotation will be marked as such under Art. 32 Spanish LPI.

Intellectual property

Original editorial content (writing, source selection, site structure, classification criteria, scoring algorithm), the "mapa.gay" brand, the logo and the visual design are property of the owner and protected under Spanish and EU intellectual property law.

Quotation and partial reproduction is permitted for informational purposes provided the source is attributed and linked. Systematic or commercial reproduction requires prior written authorisation.

Personal data and cookies

Personal data processing and cookie usage are governed by the Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy, which form an integral part of the site's legal framework. mapa.gay does not send newsletters or perform direct commercial prospecting, except in reply to user-initiated contacts.

Use of AI in content production

Generative AI tools are used as instrumental support in writing. Source selection, verification and editorial decisions are human, so the content constitutes human editorial work with technical assistance and not autonomous synthetic content, in line with Regulation (EU) 2024/1689 on Artificial Intelligence.

Notice of errata, inaccurate or offensive content

mapa.gay publishes factual data about the LGBTQI+ legal and social situation by country. Errors are possible and it is the owner's responsibility to correct them. An open channel is maintained to report inaccurate or outdated data, offensive or discriminatory content, factual errors, rights infringement, or content considered illegal within the meaning of Art. 17 LSSI-CE.

Response commitment — review within 5 business days.

For a notice to produce "actual knowledge" within the meaning of Art. 17 LSSI-CE, it must identify the exact URL, describe the content considered illegal and provide the reasons. Generic notices without a URL do not produce actual knowledge.

Available languages

This notice, the Privacy Policy and the Cookie Policy are published in Spanish (original version) and English. In case of interpretative discrepancy, the Spanish version prevails.

Modifications

The owner reserves the right to modify this legal notice at any time. Modifications take effect upon publication. We recommend periodic review of this page.

Applicable law and jurisdiction

This site is governed by Spanish law. For any dispute, the parties expressly submit to the Courts and Tribunals of Cádiz (Spain), waiving any other jurisdiction, except where consumer protection regulations provide otherwise.
