Hate speech penalty doubled
Cyprus doubled its hate-speech fine cap in October 2024 — now up to €10,000 — for offences based on sexual orientation or gender identity, strengthening the framework in force since 2017.
Parliament criminalizes conversion therapy
Conversion-therapy practices were outlawed by the Cypriot parliament on 25 May 2023, with Cyprus joining the EU group that has adopted this advance.
