Cologne has western Germany's most consolidated LGBTQI+ scene, articulated in two cores in the heart of Innenstadt: Schaafenstraße (main gay strip, pedestrianized street with 25+ venues — Iron, Mox, BlueBoy, Sticky Fingers) and the Bermudadreieck (Bermuda Triangle around Heumarkt, historic core with Rhenish-tradition bars like Vampire, Box). Cologne's Karneval (February-March) has strong queer participation.

ColognePride / Christopher Street Day is held every July and is, per Wikipedia, one of the largest gay and lesbian events organised in Germany and one of the biggest in Europe. Wikipedia figures: 35,000 participants and 750,000 visitors in 2001, 700,000 visitors in 2014, 60,000 participants and 1.4 million visitors in 2023. Parade winds through the historic center on the last Sunday of July.
