Appeal to Privy Council granted

Following the Court of Appeal's reversal of the decriminalization ruling (25 Mar 2025), activist Jason Jones was granted leave to appeal to the UK Privy Council, the country's highest court of appeal. The case could reinstate decriminalization.

The Court of Appeal overturned the 2018 High Court ruling that had decriminalized 'buggery', reinstating the offence with a 5-year maximum sentence. The rule is not enforced in practice. The constitutional 'savings clause' was the basis of the ruling.
