Living
as LGBTQI+ in Benidorm

Where people go out, when Pride is, which neighborhoods have their own scene — separated from the legal framework so you see street reality.

LGBTQI+ scene

Benidorm is, plainly, a top-tier gay nightlife destination — the Spanish Mediterranean's big gay-friendly resort alongside Sitges and Torremolinos, and a favourite of the British crowd. Its gay village lives in the Old Town: over thirty gay bars and clubs packed into a few pedestrian streets, with an identity built on cabaret, drag and live shows.

The scene is mostly nightlife-driven and very international; by day, life revolves around Levante beach. Don't expect a residential LGBTQI+ neighbourhood like Chueca, but a concentrated, festive entertainment hub. For quieter beach, Poniente is a short walk; for a big-city scene, Valencia is close by.

Benidorm Pride

Benidorm Pride is one of the big dates on the Spanish gay calendar. In 2026 it runs 1–6 September: a week of parties in the old-town bars, hotel pool parties and themed parties, climaxing in the parade on Saturday 5 September, which runs along Levante beach from Rincón de Loix to the Julio Iglesias Auditorium, where the shows continue.

It's a very international Pride with a strong British presence, and a showcase for the cabaret-and-drag scene that defines the town. Book accommodation early — the city fills up.

Old Town and beaches

Benidorm has two sides. The Old Town, on the headland between the two beaches, is the gay heart: pedestrian lanes, bars and cabarets, and the Balcón del Mediterráneo viewpoint. It's compact and very walkable.

Below it, two big Blue Flag beaches: Levante —the one for buzz, sun and nightlife, with Rincón de Loix at its British end— and Poniente, quieter and more residential, next to the small Mal Pas cove. The whole seafront is flat and accessible; the old-town core is a bit steep.

Community and health

Benidorm rests on the Valencian regional framework: the Generalitat Valenciana's LGBTI equality law (Law 23/2018) recognizes rights and anti-discrimination protection, and the city institutionally backs Pride. The scene's fabric (bars, businesses, gay-friendly hotels) is dense and decades deep.

For health, the reference public hospital is Hospital Marina Baixa (La Vila Joiosa, ~10 km, regional health service), and the private Clínica Benidorm is in town. PrEP and HIV/STI testing are available through the Valencian system and health centres. Emergencies: 112. EU citizens: the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) covers necessary care.

Neighborhoods
gay friendly · Benidorm

4 areas with their own scene — documented LGBTQI+ venues, bars and nightlife.

Casco Antiguo (gay village)

Gay area · 30+ bars · Pride epicentre

The old town, on the headland between the two beaches, is Benidorm's gay heart: narrow pedestrian streets (Santa Faz, Cuatro Esquinas, Carrer d'Alacant) lined with dozens of bars, drag cabarets and terraces packed together. It's where the scene concentrates and where Benidorm Pride beats. Very walkable, with sea views from the Balcón del Mediterráneo.

Rincón de Loix

Levante's east end · British zone

The eastern end of Levante beach, hugely popular with British tourists, with bars and an international vibe. Not a specifically gay area, but welcoming and festive, and the Benidorm Pride parade starts here. A handy base for beach and nightlife.

Playa de Levante

Main beach · sun and nightlife

Benidorm's big urban beach, some two kilometres of Blue Flag sand with a promenade and one of Spain's most intense nightlife strips. Relaxed, gay-friendly vibe, at the foot of the old town. It's the axis of the sun-and-party scene.

Playa de Poniente

Quieter · residential

The western beach, quieter, more family-friendly and residential than Levante, with a modern seafront promenade. A good option if you want beach and rest a short walk from the old-town scene. The small Mal Pas cove sits right beside it.

→ Pride (Sep)

Pride (Sep) · beach (summer) · year-round

Benidorm Pride (early September) is the big LGBTQI+ moment. For the beach, June–September (28–32°C). But Benidorm's hallmark is that it works all year: its mild climate and huge hotel capacity draw plenty of British tourism in autumn and winter too, when the gay scene stays very much alive. Book ahead for Pride.

→ Spanish and Valencian

Spanish and Valencian · English everywhere

Official languages are Spanish and Valencian. But thanks to mass British tourism, English is spoken everywhere (hotels, bars, restaurants). Getting by is easy even without Spanish.
