Living
as LGBTQI+ in Torremolinos

Where people go out, when Pride is, which neighborhoods have their own scene — separated from the legal framework so you see street reality.

LGBTQI+ scene

La Nogalera concentrates the bulk of Torremolinos' gay nightlife: bars, terraces and clubs in a pedestrian commercial gallery downtown, considered one of Europe's biggest gay beach scenes. Nightlife is intense in high season (May-September) and during Pride.

The offering combines veteran classic bars like Pourquoi Pas? with more recent clubs and drinking spots. By day, the plan shifts to Bajondillo beach, with rainbow-flag beach clubs. Outside the summer season the offering shrinks noticeably.

Pride and events

Torremolinos Pride is one of Spain's largest, with a turnout exceeding 100,000 people. The 2026 edition runs from 26 May to 6 June, with the march on Saturday 6 June starting from the Town Hall, free concerts and performances.

Torremolinos co-hosted WorldPride 2017 alongside Madrid, cementing its weight in the Spanish LGBTQI+ calendar. The town is also one of the Costa del Sol's main gay tourism destinations throughout the summer season.

Gay neighborhood · La Nogalera

La Nogalera is Torremolinos' de facto gay neighborhood: a pedestrian commercial gallery downtown, full of squares and passages with bars, terraces and clubs. It works as a meeting point day and night, especially in high season.

Next to it is the Pasaje Begoña, cradle of Spanish gay nightlife: Spain's first gay bar opened here in 1962. It's a few minutes' walk from the seafront promenade and Bajondillo beach, and very well connected by Renfe Cercanías (Torremolinos Centro station).

Community and services

Torremolinos has a strong LGBT historical memory dimension. The Pasaje Begoña was the scene of the June 1971 police raid against gay nightlife (23 businesses closed, dozens arrested), now recognized as a memory site and compared to Stonewall. There are commemorative plaques and a postage stamp issued in 2020.

The figure of Manolita Chen —a pioneering trans artist linked to the town— is part of that story. For LGBTI health and community services, the provincial hub is in Málaga city (15-20 min by Cercanías).
